South of Punta de Mita, southwest of Sayulita, and west of Bucerias is Playa El Anclote, the gateway to Bahia Banderas Bay, where expert surfers have been coming for years. The point at El Anclote is known for its 5 different surf breaks – more than anywhere else in the bay – including a calm surf for beginners at the main beach where surf lessons and surfboard rentals are available. Ocean conditions are also ideal for other water activities, such as paddle boarding, diving, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, sailing, and whale watching (December through March) between Playa El Anclote and the nearby Las Marietas Islands, which is a snorkeling paradise. Tours to Las Marietas Islands depart from El Anclote.
